I teach journalism, creative nonfiction, composition (and the occasional literature or film or interdisciplinary arts class) at Columbus State University in Georgia. I’m the author of Cross-X: The Amazing True Story of How the Most Unlikely Team from the Most Unlikely of Places Overcame Staggering Obstacles at Home and at School to Challenge the Debate Community on Race, Power, and Education. My current book project is US of AA: Science, Alcoholism and the Rise and Fall of the Twelve Steps, coming in 2018 from Chicago Review Press. My writing has appeared in New Republic, Vibe, Salon, The Missouri Review, and New Letters. I’m also faculty advisor for the Saber, CSU’s student-run newspaper.
Other than that I’m a music freak who collects records, CDs and cassettes. I’m married to a woman named Allie and instead of children we have cats and dogs.
