Weiner

Allie and I watched the Weiner documentary last night. It was well done but painful. I never realized what a brilliant political fighter he was. He had a fire, intensity and tenacity that the Democrats really need. But man did he blow it, in the stupidest, most boneheaded way. We felt awful for Huma Abedin, and perplexed. She’s strikingly beautiful. Too beautiful, it seems, for a goofy-looking older dude like him.

And then, of course, there’s the emails the FBI found on his computer in their investigation of possible pedophilia on his part. It’s like Murphy’s Law to the max, that a tragic character like him could stagger in at the tail end of an agonizing presidential campaign and play a role in tipping the scales toward the demagogue.

This country. Humans. Story. There always has to be tension. Characters always have flaws. So often, it’s a tragedy.
